5 tips to care for your skin this summer
“Summer lovin’ it happened so fast…summer lovin’ I had me a blast”….
While summer loves may come and go just like the beautiful sunshine, the aftermath of untreated skin unfortunately sticks around. Using proper sunscreen and skin care during the summer month’s is crucial for keeping and maintaining healthy, beautiful skin. What is also just as essential, if not more so, is making sure your skin and body’s immunity is up to par, so it has the capacity to handle the exposure and intensity of sun and travel that we put it through! Our skin is the largest organ of our body and it has an immunity just like every other organ in our body does. When the skin is exposed to harsh chemicals or harsh topical products like acids/Rx’s, it lowers the skins ability to perform its main job, to protect us, whether from sun or bacterial invasion.Same goes for the internal organs. When we are eating a ton of sugar and processed foods, or non- organic foods, which unfortunately come with pesticides and hormones pumped in them, our system is working to protect us and fight off all of these invaders and therefore is not functionally optimally. This means that now, when we go into the sun, the body in this condition isn’t at it strongest. It has a harder time dealing with normal functions, let alone handling anything extra like excessive sun. Lets not forget the chlorine- a whole other level of toxic yuck, in addition to poor sleep patterns which typically occur with travel.I am painting this picture so that you will understand just how hard it is for the body to handle ALL of these unnatural processes and circumstances we put it through. That said, we now have an over all weaker immune system. A weaker immune system isn’t able to handle the extra sun exposure like a strong body can. This isn’t even touching on the fact that, so many people are using chemical sunscreens which again, lower the bodies immune system and cause heat which makes us susceptible to rashes and discolorations, in addition to the toxicity of the chemical SPF itself!
Here are 5 tips you can do to take care of your skin this summer:
- Drink lots of water since our skin /body function more optimally (even being able to protect you better) when it is really hydrated! So drink water with your alcohol!
- If you are going to be eating and drinking in the sun, choose wisely! Don’t step on all your land mines at once… eat your veggies and take supplements to increase your internal immunity so you can handle the exposure better.
- Take enzymes with foods that are hard to digest or just larger meals, in general, to assist the body in being able to handle all that we ask of it.
- Lets face it, putting on SPF is no fun and easy to forget. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to reapply or to drink your SPF!
- Wear a wide brim hat that covers your face in the sun and don’t directly face the sun for any length of time.
While summer lovin’ may be on your to do list this season, make sure to take time to treat your skin, pre and post sun exposure, so you aren’t dealing with the aftermath of pain and damage later! This also means you should maintain your facials in the summer rather than letting this all accumulate and then needing to come in to reverse the damage!Check out my curated list of favorite SPF products, as well as wellness products to keep that immunity up!
