You may be young now, but you won’t be young forever and the goal is to keep them guessing!!It is important to get into the habit of taking proper care of your skin. This piece is a comprehensive guide to taking care of your skin as you age. There are some key things to remember when taking care of skin, and they are important to begin implementing while your skin holds its elasticity, so you have the require knowledge and habits it takes to maintain healthy, vibrant skin. Just like with our health, prevention is best! The following tips are our tips for graceful aging and how to maintain great skin while you age.Tip # 1. Create a daily cleansing routine. This tip almost seems useless because we all know that we have to wash our faces, but how many people actually wash correctly is the questions. Most people don’t know that it really takes time to get truly clean skin.Everything we use on truly clean skin is going to work better because there isn’t a barrier of residual makeup, dirt, oil, food… you name it! Even if you don’t wear makeup, you are wearing the environment. In a city, you are also wearing some serious pollution.Really taking the time to massage your cleanser in morning & night for 2 minutes makes ALL the difference in the world. The bonus is that you aren’t just getting truly clean skin and getting active ingredients deeper into the skin, you are also stimulating your circulation, lymph, toning & beautifying your skin. Not all cleansers are created equal. Since the cleansing sets the tone for how your skin will respond to everything else we apply after it, it is uber important that we have a cleanser that cleans the skin without stripping or drying or leaving a residue. This is where the pros come in. Speak with a skin care specialist to help you to determine which cleanser is best for your skin.A cleanse once in the morning and once before you sleep does not not actually take that much time, it is just a matter of creating the habit which will greatly benefit your skin in the future.Tip # 2. Use moisturizer.Yes, you hear this one all the time, too. But, it is essential to realize how moisturizer benefits our skin and helps us maintain a vibrant and healthy glow.Like cleansing, be sure to moisturize twice a day. Be sure to apply your moisturizer while your skin is slightly damp so that it can absorb the moisturizer (one recommended by your skin care specialist) and do what it is set out to do; moisturize your skin and keep it feeling full and moist.Tip # 3. Drink water. This tip has been up for debate for quite sometime. The question surrounding drinking water is about how much water one should drink in a day. Well, the facts still remains. Our bodies are made up of mostly water; therefore, it is important for us to drink a sufficient amount of water to help keep our body functioning. All of our organs function better when hydrated and our skin is the largest organ of our body! Not only does it help plump it up, but it also helps it function optimally meaning it also heals better and prevents skin issues because it helps to flush out toxins and waste in our system as well as aiding in sleep cycles, which, is another factor in maintaining naturally beautiful skin. You need a goal to make it happen, so here’s the formula:Take your body weight and divide it by 2. This is the number of ounces you personally need per day. Keep in mind this is your baseline, like what your body needs to function rate. For every cup of caffeine or alcohol, counter balance with cup for cup of water. Knowing your baseline and factoring in how much caffeine/alcohol you typically drink will make all the difference in the world for you to actually making it happen.Tip # 4. You guessed it; get enough sleep. In 2016, we are inundated with a culture of hustling, “going as hard as we want to breathe” and never quitting. This is all valid wisdom. However, not resting and not sleeping is detrimental to our skin, especially as we “grow up”. So, get some z’s.The most important time for rejuvenation is between 10pm and 2 am. This is when our healing hormones kick in. Everybody is different so it is important to listen to yours to get the amount of sleep you need. It is said that between 6 – 8 hours is typically the amount that is necessary to achieve appropriate REM sleep and allow your skin to feel rested and healthy.Tip # 5. You are what you eat!We all know the obvious things like fried /greasy food is bad for us, as is excess sugar, and alcohol, and processed foods. But sometimes we aren’t super clear on what we should eat. Eat your food as close as you can to its natural state!I always say “convenience is the enemy when it comes to food. So bring your attention to this. Whenever you are turning to a package or jar, or container of remade something or another, that’s likely not so good. Kick up your fruits and vegetables. Once in the habit, its not so hard.I like to delegate a day a week to prepare some dishes and chop some veggies so I can grab and go on the busiest of days and feel good about what I am putting in my body. And, tip # 6. BE GENTLE.We are often hard on our skin and scrub all types of products and ointments on it without a clue what they actually do. Consult with a skin care specialist so that you can be as gentle with your skin as you deserve. You won’t be young forever, but these are some tips to help you maintain healthy, vibrant skin for life. Taking proper care of your skin can make all the difference to your future skin, and to keep them guessing your age!
